Planning Your Move
Plan Ahead for a Stress-free Moving Day
Are you planning to move sometime soon? If so, there are several steps you should take in order to make certain the entire process goes smoothly. In fact, the more advanced planning you do and the more organized you get beforehand, the less stress you will experience when moving day arrives.
Itemized lists are a great way to get yourself on track for a smooth move. You can record all of the information related to your move in a spiral notebook. This will include a list of the items needing to be moved as well as other steps you need to take before your move will be complete, such as getting your utilities shut off.
Keep track of the companies you called by writing them down. Devote one full page to each moving company and all of the information you have collected about that company. Included in this should be cost, terms, and scheduling issues. Once you opt for a particular moving company, use this page to jot down date about the company, such as drivers names and contact information.
Get Your Moving Supplies Organized
You might be surprised about the number of supplies you need to have on hand when packing items and preparing for a move. Items you should be sure to have on hand include:
• Blankets
• Boxes
• Markers
• Moving Pads
• Newspaper
• Plastic Storage Bins
• Pocketknives
• Rope
• Scissors
• Packing Tape
You might be able to get some boxes from stores in your area. Or you might want to buy the moving company's boxes. In some cases, the moving company may require you to use their boxes if you are going to use their moving services. This way, it can help make the move easier if they are certain the boxes fit certain dimensions.
If you have unwanted goods try giving them away or sell them. There might even be some items that are less expensive to replace rather than move. In both cases, you might want to consider giving items away to charity or to friends. Or, you might want to hold a garage sale so you can try to make a little extra cash off of the items you are getting rid of.
Making a new house a home can be made a lot easier if you make a simple drawing of the layout of the home and figure out where you want your furniture to go. If you know where you put things, you can pack them so it is easier to unpack them and locate them. By getting organized will help you begin adapting to you new life.
